At ITS, we produce wooden packaging for our customers in Northern Ireland. We produce high-quality export crates and wooden pallets from our Portadown headquarters. Additionally, every product is ISPM15 certified.
What is ISPM15?
ISPM15 stands for International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15. These regulations prevent the spread of disease and pests in wooden packaging. We specifically create packaging for international trade. ISPM15 standards are essential on all wooden packaging. Packaging products include pallets, crates, drums, or boxes.
ISPM15 requires timber packaging to be made from debarked wood. Subsequently, heat treatment and fumigation are carried out. The wood must be heat treated for at least 30 minutes at 56 degrees Celsius. A product only achieves ISPM15 certification after these requirements are met.
How do I benefit from ISPM15 packaging?
No packaging and shipping products are more important than our humble pallets and crates. That’s why we ensure we meet every last requirement that will benefit our products. Therefore, we also help our customers.
1. ISPM15 removes pests from your wooden packaging
ISPM15 standards have many benefits. Above all, ISPM15 certification ensures timber is free of insects and parasites. Timber is debarked before the heat treatment begins. This guarantees no pests enter the wood prior to heat treatment. Without certification, ecosystems and plants are put at risk.
2. Hassle-free international transport
All produced timber must meet labelling and processing requirements. Packaging is central in the distribution process to reduce disruptions. Therefore, it is advantageous to choose heat-treated timber. The standards in international distribution are maintained through universal features. Ultimately, this benefits businesses as it guarantees trouble-free transport worldwide.
3. Lighter packaging
Due to the nature of ISPM15 wood, it weighs less than another packaging. This is because heat treatment dries the timber, removing excess moisture from the product. The weight reduction is not dramatic. However, it does reduce the weight slightly. Saving costs wherever possible is extremely important in business. Gradual, small savings accumulate. Therefore, reducing fuel costs can benefit your business over time.
4. Less mould and bacteria
Untreated timber contains excessive moisture. This is the perfect condition for mould and bacteria to grow. In addition to this, mould and bacteria spread onto the packaged products. Instead, by using ISPM15 timber, you reduce the contamination of products. As well as this, the risk of load rejection reduces. This is extremely common in the distribution industry. Profit loss is a consequence of this. At ITS, we recycle our wooden packaging to reduce costs.
